I was searching for what can only be called a stealth laptop bag - a bag which does not look like a puffy scuba suit for my computer nor seems like a lunch bag for a jumbo bento box. And I found this amazingly simple 3-way bag! You can wear this bag as a cross-body, or as a hobo ... but wait! There's more.

In the words of Britney Spears: I'm not a girl ... oh, sorry: three is a charm, two is not the same. The best thing about this bag is the little top handle. Why? Because after your stuff goes through the X-ray at the airport, when 20 people are staring at you because you're buckling up your Jeffrey Cambell Denmark's which they already side-eyed when you were taking them off because who wears a bootie plus an Ugg plus a clog anyway??... You do NOT want to have to put a laptop bag over your shoulder on top of your purse and everything else. You just want to grab that puppy and get to the magazine store.

I have a 14" laptop and I put it inside the dreaded soft scuba shell inside this bag. I can also fit a book and some files. People compliment me on this bag often and I say, It was made for me in Bangkok (which is sorta true!).

So I've been looking into getting a new purse. The one I have now is pretty adorable... but it's also small. Although it keeps me from lugging around things I don't need all day, it can inhibit me from certain things (i.e sneaking air-popped popcorn into the movies or keeping my make-up bag with me for little touch-ups.) So, when I came across these bags from However's Quote Bags I was pretty impressed. They look like something I could take with me on a bike, or around the city... And the sweet little inspirations printed on the tabs give them that little something extra to make you smile. The bags are very unique and the designs change regularly- so you know you're getting something extra special. Love that!

I’ve been looking for a great tote bag! I’ve been using this bag that I made quite some time ago but it hardly fit everything I need. I was lucky to fit 1 beach size towel in it so I really needed something that fit more!

In comes Quote Bag Studio. I really wanted something with stripes and this bag completely fit the order.

Isn’t it gorgeous?! How creative is this?!

You can use this bag as not only a classic tote bag, but also a regular size handbag… and still keeping it stylish! There are these super handy buckle straps on the bottom corners to easily transition the personal bag to classic tote, and then the other way around.

Another super handy and incredibly creative feature is the straps are completely adjustable by using a classic belt buckle closure. Each closure for each strap actually closes on the opposite side of the other strap. So it creates these really stylish straps.

Any I can fit TONS of stuff in this bag! For realz!

This image doesn’t quite do it justice, but the towel shown is one super huge beach size towel, and I could probably fit another 2 in there easy. Perfect for my family of 3! Or you could do 2 beach size towels for Mom and Dad, and 2 small size towels for the kids. For those families of 4

There are also 3 great pockets on the inside for your sunscreen, phone, keys, etc.

Quote Bag Studio specializes in great bag designs and they like to make a limited quantity of each bag design they create. So when you purchase a bag from them, you know you’re getting one of the only copies ever made, which makes it super special.

Their bags are also handmade, but I can assure you… they don’t have that ‘cheap handmade’ quality about them like some items can have. They truly feel factory made but still have that handmade charm about them!

Hi everyone! If you're anything like me you've spent the last few weeks sorting through paperwork, receipts, payroll records and Quickbooks preparing your taxes…I think the accountants among us deserve a high five. Such great (and tedious) work they do! We hired an accountant this year and it has been the best thing we've done in so long - he's great.

We also released a few new bags, The Very Useful Letter bag, which has already been a huge hit! We sold out of the first set within a few days of getting it up in the shop and have been steadily sewing up more. It's my favorite bag we make (well, today anyway…my favorite depends on the day, really…I love them all!).

The weather is finally warming up and I could not be happier…I'm such a slug in the middle of winter. Horray for spring blossoms, light jackets and summer ales.

I spent a bit of time yesterday photographing our new bag (you're going to love it!)

Doubble work..double pleats

You know, when I started to make the first pleated bag, I had made the original bag on a whim, without any planning, and of course I had thrown the pattern away too (daft girl!). Anyhooo the bag came out in all its lovely pleated and we love it :-)

Now it's been 1 and half year later and every single time we restock the pleated bag, it still takes us ... like forever. The bag has a very rounded (balloonish) shape which has been created by inserting both darts and pleats. The most difficult part is we match the pleates on the inside lining with the outside bag, too.

Someting new at Quote studio

oh bother…I have a very long winded 7 paragraph essay written for you all talking all about how much fun this holiday season has been, how it's been a lot of work but virtually stress free compared to the last several years because we're no longer operating in a made-upon-order business model for our online customer.

This year because we switched from made-upon-order to in-stock and ready to ship and worked hard for 3 1/2 years to accomplish that switch and how no one should run their business in a made-upon-order fashion unless they are a restaurant (and even then, you prep!)

I was a bit sad when we had to close down our Suan-lum night market shop but now I'm looking forward to run our new shop in Taiwan and online on Yahoo. Wait...you haven't seen anything yet...it's gonna be great :-)

For our Thailand's fans, the new Quote studio will be open again next year at "the water front" night market. I think the place is fabulous, it's an old warehouse next Chao-pra-ya river and we got the place on the deck.

Oh my god i have just discovered POLYVORE, i stumbled upon this strange yellow object assemblage and wondered what the hack it was! I'm still not really sure but you seem to be able to drag and drop your own images from thousands of web images to a lightbox area and create your own collages in a matter of minutes. The yellow one above seems to be one that someone had created earlier.

So here is my attempt at a Black things.

I've just added a few new items to our shop for the holidays. Our new arrival Crescent Moon leather n Canvas Bag.

All year long we try out new colors and stock pile discontinued colors...we've been saving a few denim stripe and cream canvas for this holiday season...there are only just a few in the studio...so, this will be your last chance to get them!

My first inspiration : Sawa Hazime canvas

Ok, this post is about ... Why Canvas bag??

There're so many people ask me this question. The thing is, when I was 21, Back in Australia when we were about to make our very first collection, Jim(that time he’s only the boyfriend) ask me about the material that we’d like to use.
Then I went to Brisbane public library. This was what I found from a pile of junk mail and DM that the librarian was about to toss them away. So I asked her if I can have it and she said Yes.

It was a very old catalogue from Sawa Hazime canvas bag shop in Kyoto. According to Wikipedia, Sawa Hazime canvas Industry is Kyoto Dongshan District textile bag manufacturer. "Made of canvas before 上Ru Sawa Hazime Higashiyama, Kyoto Chion," known by the tag sewn with red frame. This business was 5stablished in 1905.

I’m so Impressed that I went back home to tell Jim immediately that we’ll use canvas. I love the history, the perfect texture and how the canvas bags look.
I really wish that the next time when we visit Japan I'll have a chance to buy his bag eventhough they're so costly. But he's truely my very first inspiration.

Jim finished 2 samples of the bag yesterday with different open...It was kinda my bad that when I draw the bag I didn't think about the open of it (Just simply think about I want it to look loke a Tulip)..so It's jim duty to figure it out.
Here they are...I love the blue one, It exactly same as the bag in my mind that I wanted to make for a long long time.

Pasaya outlet + Hardware store

For those of you who love our Pasaya limited edition fabric. You know, I have been so anxious to get this lovely fabric into the shop. We have been working on this evolution of our Bag for quite.some.time (almost since the first 3-way Bag was released back 2 years ago!). We knew this bag was great, but we knew it could be even better with the better fabric canvas. Our task today is to find it in Pasaya fabric outlet.

One more thing..we think it'll be cool if we have very unique hardware hooks (on both side of the bag). With a bag this size, we knew we needed to have a very specific piece of hardware to withstand the weight of everything you might put inside (like computers). So we custom ordered a set of hooks for the new 3-way bag.

Hareware store

This was a new process for us. We learned that it takes a loooong time to custom order hardware and you have to order it in very large quantities. But it was a great experience, our hardware suppliers are fantastic and helped us every step of the way (even though we are likely one of their tiniest companies to work with). An added bonus is this hardware will now be used on all of our bags with removable straps...so, all of our bags just got a bit better - yay!

We did it!!

we did it! every order that was promised for xmas delivery has been shipped out on 15DEC! (that's every order placed prior to dec. 4th). This is a huge accomplishment for us - our volume was higher this year than last year...only last year I had a few people helping me and we still had to send out apologetic late emails. This year, it is only Jim, Sorn and I - but we work so well together we managed to stay on track and get every bag shipped!
I can't tell you how exhausted we are from the seemingly endless long long long days...but it doesn't matter, this is a huge accomplishment - I certainly had my doubts that we would get every bag made in time...I was on the verge of tears on 13th night, thinking there was no way we would get all of those bags made...but, Jim talked me down (as he always does...he's the level headed part of our pairing), we pressed onward and finally we dropped the last batch of parcel in the mail!!!

We are taking 2 weeks off for Christmas and New year to have some quality hang time with James in Taiwan...we desperately need it. Before I go, I just want to wish you all a very merry holiday - there is always much to be thankful for!

Purple + Purple

I finished up new pleated bag in purple leather and canvas. I am particularly excited with how this batch of bags turned out, but also a little bummed about how the photos turned out. As I have mentioned before, Jim’s still not very handy with a camera and it turns out that it is quite tricky to photograph purple fabric well. He did his best, so hopefully you can look past the quality of the photographs, because they do not quite do these bags justice. I think the purple is perfect for autumn/winter, and I especially love the combination of leather and canvas. It was a super lucky find at the fabric warehouse recently. I only have a few yards, but I will try to make the most of it in the coming weeks.

I recently buy a pair of vintage shoes from BeckyDrolen Vintage shop on etsy.

I've gone on at some length about how good quality vintage shoes are rare as hens' teeth, so I could hardly resist sharing this fabulous pair with you today. You certainly won't find anything like this on the Mall at the moment: these vintage, French style shoes are FABULOUS!
The shoes may be getting on for twenty years old, but they're beautifully preserved wooden wedge heels with a navy faux reptile print and little gold piping where the shoe and heel meet. These are a gorgeous way to spice up an outfit!

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on finishing up some new listings for my etsy shop, and should have them all ready and live tomorrow or so, if you want to take a look to see if anything catches your eye.

Also I've already list our S-bag (the leather version) That we developed them to complete D-mark award 2009. Turn out we're one of forty designers who can run for G-mark design award at Tokyo Bigsite Japan...also DEP contacted us to display our collection at Tokyo Midtown mall this comming August. (I'll update some photo from the show right after i get them.)

Long time no see ...hee heee
There are many exciting things to share! We have been hard at work trying to keep up with orders, securing our marketing for the next few months, adding new designs, updating photographs, doing our taxes (a bigger job than you might think) and we will be sending our design to Design excellence award www.demarkaward.net We'll put on the photo of the bags soon.

So, I am super far behind due to the all consuming tax week and last minute decision to send our bags to attend the award....That's why we didn't see each other in a while ;-)

Asean - Japan gift show 2009

I'm back from Japan...As I told you guys earlier that we'll be joying Asean - Japan gift show in the Asean - Japan Center, Tokyo from 5-15th FEB.

The show was quite small. There were 30 booths from 10 countries. Our Quote line was doing quite well at the show. There were many Japanese buyers interested in our products. Here is a photo of the booth

The business is alright and brahh brahhh....I'm not gonna do any business talk here. Just that you can be sure that Quote will be available in some Japanese retail soon heeeee ;-)

What I love the most in Japan is ... everywhere is soooooo clean.
We spent a day window shopping in Harajuku...It's huge!!
Shops decoration here is pretty cool. In the photo is a hair salon, which I love the look of the front shop.

Yes, We're back in Taiwan.
Mann...it is cold here!! the photo is when we went out and about in Taipei.
James is happy..he loves winter.
I'm...umm cold (what I can say, I'm a Thai girl)

Finally, Jim bought a new sewing machine for me. At first I wanna buy an antique Singer sewing machines to convert it to the electric but Jim said it's too complicated. So we look and look. After 3 days of researching, he bought a local brand sewing machine, which the seller claim it is the best (of caurse he wants us to buy). I'll start to make some new pattern soon. Just need sometime to be familiar with the machine. The bag to me is all about proportion, and interplay of pattern and materials. As you know the Quotation line is about Leather and canvas...I hope this sewing machine will work out well for me :-)

i apologize for being a bit of a deadbeat blogger lately. i have been hard at work, i assure you. i am working on a new batch of my Stop Global warming project, which will be part of a show in BKK international gift fair (BIG&BIH 2009 - April).
We call it the "Shodow project"
This project will be displayed at the showcase called Talent-Thai, which include many young designers.

Here, I'm working on the sample...using my grandma antique sewing machine from 1983 that she had converted to an electric. Still runs like a champ but boy is this thing noisy. It sounds like a train which is not a good feature for someone who likes to craft into the wee hours.

i will share more details about the show soon!

i am trying to also keep my etsy shop stocked, but because i have limited time to finish my work for Shadow project, this is proving to be a bit difficult right now. i'll add more bags to the shop asap, and i will try my best to add more and more soon!

Here I find myself, 8 days into the new year, with no resolutions...hurrrr

In past years I have had a feeling on the eve of what I wanted to make sure to do differently in the new year - and I have usually been very excited for the fresh start.

Lacking that same feeling this year had me a little worried; was it positive or negative that I could not come up with a resolution? Pondering this for the last few days I've realized it's definitely positive.

I've had a wonderful year that I am so grateful for and instead of thinking of things to do differently, I'm thinking of how to not take advantage of my situation and thinking of some great new ideas to enhance what I've already got going.

I guess that could be considered a resolution, but I think I'm looking at things from a whole new perspective.

I'll be better and better!!

Our Day off

Yes...we do have a day-off. After our longggg working week, me and Jim finally have sometime to bring James around. (Thanks to Meo, who showed me her Supanburi trip photo yesterday). Without creative thinking...today, we're going to Supanburi.. YEAH!!!

First stop :: Samchuk Market
The ancient market that has been founded about 100 years ago. There are a lot of interesting starting from foods (yes.. this is the best part for going to market) , handicraft, and Thai style toys that were popolar in our mom and dad times.
Now the "100 year Market" has become a famous place. Many tourists drive up from Bangkok (In Thailand, there is a long tradition of "food tourism" – where people get into their cars and drive around the country to explore local delicacies. Sam Chuk is now on the list!

Here is Community Museum, this beautiful big house had been closed up for years, all the family in Bangkok, but now the community rents the house from the owner (10 year lease) for the museum, which is filled with photos, history panels, maps, models of the community and antiques.

Our next stop Bueng Chawak Zoo + Aquarium

We really enjoyed this place, James loves tigers and lions (They are so active..and i was a bit scared). The animals did make good subjects and it gave a nice opportunity to get close to tigers (and the ticket is only 30 Bath/person)

We arrived Bkk around 8pm...and finished our day-off by grilled those big prawn we bought (them alive) from Supanburi.

It's winter...

I have recently sourced a new fabric and introduced it to my shop. It is manufactured by a Taiwan company, and is nylon felt. I'm really excited about using it, because it is so bright and colorful.

The popular Saddle design is available in this grey felt meterial. Only for this winter edition. Other colours currently available are black, off-white, olive green, red and dove grey.

Ps. That lovely pink scarf was handknited by my grandma ;-)

As I told you guys earlier...we'll open our 2nd bag studio at 7th floor Centralworld.
The thing is...2 months ago, there was a guy who visited our exhibition show and he contacted us about this project. The new zone called Indy in Town will open in 7th floor in CentralWorld, they'll invited independent designer who run their-own label to open the shop there. We got Picked...Weeeeee ;-)

I got this fun Japanese DIY bags book a while ago from eBay, and this is the first bag inspired by one of the bags from this book.

Left over leather + Stubborn mom

I love the idea of Fold-able, reshape-able or whatever that can made the bag has versatile usages. Most of our Quote bags come with this idea.
After i've done Canday bag I still have another sketch in my sketch book (it could be Candy bag #2) but Jim didn't like it. He said it's too hard to open and not practical.

I like it anyway hehehehe :-)

So lastnight, after I put James to bed..I tried to keep our work space organize, I just grap a leftover piece of leather and black canvas then sewed it.

The result was not so good, since i didn't draw any pattern or have any plan on the bag. Everything has done in about 2 and half hour.
The proportion was wrong, the strap was too long and the bag body was too small.

I told Jim, I made a new school bag for James ;-) and I finally convinced him YEAH!!!
You guys may see this bag (in better form) in our shop soon.

Piano lesson

I always want to teach James to play piano but I don't know how to play it (I play violin when i was little) I can read notes and interpreting it, but after 10 years of learning.. my music is moving nowhere.

Some said:
Teaching little fingers to play is a complete joy and with these lessons, you will be success even if you do not know how to play the piano!!
And Jim is the one who've never ever play any music instrument and trying to teach James piano lesson ;-)

Now James's 3 years old, and I think he really like piano. I wish soon we can see him playing some piano and hopefully he has better music sense than me.

The Delay of your orders

Black-Purple-and-Khaki

Time away is so important to keeping the working mind working. I admit, I acted as though I was still on vacation for at least 4 days after Jim and James coming back from Taiwan...maybe 5, but then I got right to work! I was able to redesign the New Bag, which doesn't have name yet, sew up the new pattern, so Jim can make samples, then we get them all photographed...all within the last 3 days. I feel so revived!

Here's a bit of what we've been working on:

I know, there are many of you who have been eager to see Quote in Black leather, the time has come. I have finally found a black leather I like. It has been slightly distressed. This new bag will soon-to-be-available at Quote - The quotation line.

Today..we had our new color square bags photo shoot. And as you can see on all of our list, the face of QUOTE is still me (mostly Jim chop my head off by Photoshop). We knew hiring a professional model is not cheap..and we just cann't do that right now.

But, See.. James was with us the whole time, and after all the new lists haven't been post on etsy yet.

Hopefully..we can get it done by tomorrow (cos James will go to attend his playgroup).

Yes, we call it The baby carseat bag...basically because we went to pick the meterial, we found this fabric. It's extreamly costly because it is water proove and It's thick enough to make baby carseats.

All about Leather

Here are some of our photos when we went to pick new leather ;-)

Jim is a perfectionist..so it always take us forever to pick perfect leather but I'm very realistic, so it's my job to tell him about leather. Turned out we always get into a fight..like this time

Me: Babe, No two pieces of leather take to a colour in quite the same way so shades will vary.

Jim: But i need 20 piece of ‘light tan’ ..I want them all to be the same. Too bad they are not accurate ;-(

Me: This is accurate but there are variances within each shade.

Blah Blah Blah

I just want to let you know that...you can be sure that the leather used is some of the highest quality leather that can be sourced and we continually strive to source even better quality while looking for even more interesting colours. And a small number of the bags will also have slight imperfections in the leather. This is not a sign of poor quality leather, it is common in all leather.

Please do not forget ...I'm very realistic!! ha ha ha

Sorry it has been so long!

Ok..I don't know where to start to tell our past few months story..
First, we finally open our first bag studio in Suan-Lum night barzza.
Second, We attended BIG&BIH exhibition for the 2nd time and this time we've got a surprise...(this is long story, I'll write about it later)
And We'll open our bag studio in CentralWorld next month ;-)

Jim's been having people come in during the week and on weekends to work with him on the new patterns. Jim's been sewing 7 days a week for SO LONG! Poor thing.

If you have sent me an email and I have yet to reply, please accept my apologies. I've been trying not to answer email in the middle of the day as those are my prime working hours. And, le sigh, I'm so tired by night time, I never make it all the way through the many messages in my inbox. So, you will hear from me...it just may take me a few days. It's all about Vintage Bags

I love vintage fashion and I especially love mixing it up to make it modern. I think I have a little old lady hiding in me ! Jim contributes(to a large extent)to my sense of fashion by making sarcastic comments !

Today, I got this book : Making Vintage Bags by Emma Brennan...and I just fall in love in Vinatge style bags. I think soon I'll come up with some vintage inspire item...mix with Quote signature color pallette (Its toned down and very chic). By the way, it's a little girly and may not be favored by all.

On Assignment: Shoot Like a Pro

One thing I learned today is

Lighting is everything: Repeat after me: "Lighting is everything." With the right lighting even some of the lower cost cameras will do a surprising job.

Here is a sample of some of the non leather fabric that will be used for Fall 2008.

I will be using a combo of a cotton canvas blend as well as a cotton twill that will include some NEW "Quote" graphics.

In fact, we already bought the whole large roll of Pasaya woven blen canvas (it is extreamly costly but i LOVE LOVE LOVE it)

Right now Jim is in the middle of drafting all his new patterns.

I can't wait to start putting everything together! My scanner isn't cooperating with me right now but as soon as it is I will put Jim's sketches up so you can have a sneak preview.

This collection will includes lots more clutches (of course) medium and large totes, a luxury grocery tote, make up bags, variations of a few old classics and more.

Quote Japan Street Bag Returns

Those of you who have been listening for the last few months remember the Japan Street Square bag. I loved the bag, however it had this circle cutout, which many people said it's too small...so I had to re-size the cutout , and ended up taking me longer to make than the whole bag.

So, I revamped the darned thing. Don't worry, it's still the Chic Japan Street Bag, but with a bit more practicality (better fit). Now the circle cutout allows the bag to fit comfortably on your shoulder and lends a streamlined silhouette, much better engineering this time.
